After the flooding rain, a video installation by a group of cinematography students at USC led by OK Keyes

As they begin to rise again
Chrysanthemums faintly smell,
After the flooding rain.

Date/Time: April 14 – 17, 12pm – 6pm daily
Guided by the nature poetry of Matsuo Bashō, USC students captured the flood’s impact in abstract vignettes. These experimental shorts are the basis for an interactive, lyrical video installation that documents the impact of the flood on the environment in Columbia. Through live video inputs, the bodies of the audience insert themselves into the bodies of water that encompass the space. In the same way that the waters interrupted Columbia, we hope Columbia can interrupt the waters.

Natural Disasters of the Human Kind,  a solo performance by Shannon Ivey

“I have a waterline. It’s on my body. It’s my C Section scar.”

Date/Time: Thursday, April 16th @ 6:30pm
FREE to the Public
There’s a storm, a taxi driver, a wig, and a boat stuck in the dam…and this lady is our our tour guide. Natural Disasters of the Human Kind is a solo performance piece addressing change, grief, resiliency, pregnancy, and gender. Shannon moved back to Columbia in early November and chose a duplex in Forest Acres, one block from an area decimated by the October flooding. Her piece is a blend of monologues, sound, and movement that plays on the metaphor of a waterline as a physical reminder of a personal hurricane/flood.

Shannon Ivey (MFA, AEA) is a an actor/storyteller/educator based in Columbia, SC. For more info visit www.shannon-ivey.com
